Papusza Couture @ Williamsburg Fashion Weekend

February 21, 2009 by Kristin · Leave a Comment

Can beauty exist without imagination?  Kaytee Papusza of PapuszaCouture proved at Williamsburg Fashion Weekend’s first night that they exist only simultaneously and symbiotically.

Couture pieces are not made for the masses, they are carefully crafted individual pieces specifically made for each body.  They are designed to show craftsmanship, the designer at his/her highest potential.

The shots I managed to capture from Friday night’s show are just the beginning of what Kaytee is possible of creating.  Her imagination is boundless, a little bit twisted, but very humorous and amusing.  Each model that came on stage was 100% in character, had her own song and spent most of it telling some invented story through their improvised actions.  Theater, art, music, fashion all rolled into one.  I guess Williamsburg isn’t so bad after all.  Kaytee is one transplant that I don’t mind having around.

Pin-up nymph.

Flapper wind-up doll.

Pocahontes goes to the opera.

I LOVE this print.  Bird in heat.

Totally dig this print, too.

I would wear this.  I would wear this pattern in every possible version in which she could make it.  And this model rocked my world, she worked that camera and the audience!  I thought I was in a music video.

Naughty Mary Poppins.

And last, but CERTAINLY not least:  The pièce de résistance- STILTS!

Oberon and Death.

In motion.  Little bit of Steve Tyler in there.

Papusza Couture can be purchased at www.smashingdarling.com

Make sure you follow Kaytee’s career.  Buy her clothes now before she blows up and you can’t afford them anymore!!
